You may want to see your doc (get referred to a dermatologist). Fungal infection can cause your hair to smell. You may also have a scalp inflammation.
You can home medicate with several over the counter anti-fungal shampoo which you have to use like 2-3 a week for a month or so (hardcore).
But in the end I think a doc may be your best bet to give you something that's extra strenght and probably more tailored to your diagnosis.

are you a dog ..........................? If not use dandruff shampoo everyday, or any anti fungal shampoo. You might have a fungus similiar to dandruff on your head, better do something before all your hair start falling out.
May be due to oily hair. Poor hygiene, improper diet ,sluggish condition of the scalp caused by poor blood circulation are the main causes of dandruff. A herbal rinse is a safe method of removing dandruff. Apply lemon juice with the rind on the scalp .After 5 minutes wash off with shampoo and water.
